Divergent, why read it?

Divergent, why read it?

In one of my classes, Best Sellers, we have to choose a fiction to read and complete a project on. For my book I choose Divergent by Veronica Roth.  Divergent tells the story of a young girl, Beatrice. Beatrice or Tris lives in a Utopian society.
Each person belongs to one of five fractions the Dauntless, Erudite, Abnegation, Amity, and Candor. The Dauntless are brave, Erudite are smart, Abnegation are selfless, Amity value the power of friendship, and Candor can’t tell lies. Beatrice grew up in the Abnegation fraction, only she has a problem – she can’t be selfless. Once she reaches the age of 16, she can choose to qualify and move to another fraction based on test results. Her test results were rare to say the least turned out very unconventional. She’s a Divergent, a person who could choose three of the fractions. When she gets to the choosing ceremony, she has to choose. And where does she go? Dun Dun Dun she picks the Dauntless!!! Now we have to follow her as she figures out a life where she can be greedy.
The reason that I choose this book is honestly just because I brought it and never had a chance to start the book until now. Why I brought this book would honestly be a better question. I brought the book because I had heard so much about it. My last honors class had to analyze the first two chapters, I was very intrigued. The authors writing style really stands out to me. The way that Tris comes across the page, you feel what she feels. You have those moments of emotion, as if you were Tris. On the Goodreads website, Divergent has earned a 4.38 star reading. Already one hundred and seventy pages into the book, I’m giving it a 4. It has kept me engaged, but the plot is a little predictable so far. I still have a good three hundred odd pages left so I’m sure some type of plot twist will be introduced before the end.

Get booked, with a good book, I know I am.

Why I Read, Post #1

Why does one read?

Some might read to escape, learn, enjoy, or imagine.
For others it just might be a necessity read for school.
Maybe you just don’t read at all. I know that I read to escape life.
I could be stressed over a project, and in calming myself I will often read a book.

I remember the first book that I read for pleasure. It was the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling. During the fourth grade, my friends were always talking about Harry this, and Harry that. Soon I couldn’t keep wondering about what this series, these books, were all about. And so I asked. They told me all about Harry Potter and his adventures. I became intrigued with this character and his story. Less than a year later I finished all of the books. I read then not to escape or learn, but just to imagine and enjoy the stories of this orphan.

Now that I’m older, I’m starting to appreciate the plots, the character developments, the foreshadowing, the writing style, the genres, and everything else that goes into creating a work of literature. Plots are thought out. There not made on the fly, unlike this blog, the ending of the book might be planed before the beginning and middle. Then the author has to fashion a backstory that will get them to the ending of the novel. When I write creatively, I post my story online to a sight called Wattpad. The first thing that you need do when creating a story for the web site, is figure out a summary; something to draw in readers. Doing what any teenager would do is give the outline without going into the plot. As I grew I start to think before I post anything on that sight, give a true representation of the book.

I read to appreciate the thought of the writers, to escape my daily life, distress, enjoy a good plot, and imagine myself in someone else’s shoes. I don’t think that without that day in fourth grade that I would be reading or doing what I do now. Books have changed my life and made me a thinker, for that I will dive into a book every day.
