Why does one read?
Some might read to escape, learn, enjoy, or imagine.
For others it just might be a necessity read for school.
Maybe you just don’t read at all. I know that I read to escape life.
I could be stressed over a project, and in calming myself I will often read a book.
I remember the first book that I read for pleasure. It was the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling. During the fourth grade, my friends were always talking about Harry this, and Harry that. Soon I couldn’t keep wondering about what this series, these books, were all about. And so I asked. They told me all about Harry Potter and his adventures. I became intrigued with this character and his story. Less than a year later I finished all of the books. I read then not to escape or learn, but just to imagine and enjoy the stories of this orphan.
Now that I’m older, I’m starting to appreciate the plots, the character developments, the foreshadowing, the writing style, the genres, and everything else that goes into creating a work of literature. Plots are thought out. There not made on the fly, unlike this blog, the ending of the book might be planed before the beginning and middle. Then the author has to fashion a backstory that will get them to the ending of the novel. When I write creatively, I post my story online to a sight called Wattpad. The first thing that you need do when creating a story for the web site, is figure out a summary; something to draw in readers. Doing what any teenager would do is give the outline without going into the plot. As I grew I start to think before I post anything on that sight, give a true representation of the book.
I read to appreciate
the thought of the writers, to escape my daily life, distress, enjoy a good
plot, and imagine myself in someone else’s shoes. I don’t think that without
that day in fourth grade that I would be reading or doing what I do now. Books
have changed my life and made me a thinker, for that I will dive into a book every
day.
Great post! I am looking forward to reading more from your blog. I'm glad you are in this class, especially since you are such an avid reader!
